(Metrologic Group: Grenoble, France) — Metrologic Group has acquired a majority stake in ATT Metrology Services Inc., a large-scale 3-D metrology inspection company. The acquisition is part of Metrologic Group’s growth strategy aimed at adding 3-D industrial inspection services to its existing 3-D measuring global solutions.

Located in the Seattle area, ATT has served various industries including aerospace, transportation, telecommunications, and heavy engineering for more than 20 years. The company’s team of metrologists have worked with major manufacturers to develop, fabricate, reverse-engineer, and inspect the most advanced vehicles, aircraft, communication systems, and facilities in the world. Metrologic Group SA specializes in the design and manufacture of 3-D control software and electronics. The company has offices in Germany, Italy, Spain, China, and the United States. Terms of the purchase are not being disclosed.

“Acquiring ATT will not only allow us to expand our client base, but also to team-up with the highest-skilled 3-D measuring specialists located in a high-potential growth region for Metrologic Group,” comments Philippe Cimadomo, president and CEO of Metrologic Group. “We are not only going to broaden our offerings, but also strengthen our presence in the U.S. market while improving our products for the portable measuring devices market, whose global demand keeps increasing. ATT will become a strong player in our development team by sharing its know-how acquired in the last 20 years working on major large-scale measurement projects using optical and portable measuring devices.”

“We are excited to have this business relationship with Metrologic Group as it opens up new markets within the United States and internationally to a broader range of customers and industries with the world leader in 3-D metrology software,” states Steve Ihlenfeldt, ATT’s president and CEO. “There are many complimentary synergies between the companies. ATT will benefit from the global market presence, international business expertise, and the superior software products offered by Metrologic Group.”

ATT Metrology Services has also relocated its North American headquarters from Redmond, Washington, to its new, expanded facility in Issaquah, Washington. Their new 18,000 square-foot facility will house metrology training facilities, test laboratories, customer technical services, meeting rooms, and offices for ATT’s growing staff of 25 employees. The relocation is the first phase in ATT’s expansion, which is intended to increase the company’s metrology offerings by providing in-house measurement services, and add the capacity to perform precision alignment and precision assembly work at the new larger facility. The company intends to expand into the stationary CMM market.

The company increases its overall efficiency by performing in-house calibrations of its numerous metrology systems. It will move the manufacturing of its optical target accessories product line from an external resource into the new building. These improvements were not possible in the prior location. The entire relocation process is expected to be completed by the end of the summer.
